PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - In a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, super model Petra Nemcova was installed as Honorary Consul of Haiti in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Lamothe, explained the reasons for the choice. "This is the first time that Haitian will be represented in the Czech Republic. It is a well-deserved appointment for this great fashion professional with a personality that is both warm, passionate for the development of tourism and social actvities in Haiti, became his adopted country after its first visit, 12 November 2007, alongside megastar Haiti, Wyclef Jean."
The new representative of Haiti in the Czech Republic said, "I was very aware of the call of the Haitian government to represent Haiti in my country. I am very honored to be appointed Consul. Already, I focus a lot on cultural exchanges. My role will be, among others, contribute to bringing the two countries by encouraging Czech investors to invest in Haiti. I will not miss this appointment with history, emphasizing natural relations between Haiti and the Czech Republic to change the image of Haiti, a task that is not easy."
Nemcova has made education in Haiti one of her causes in recent months. The model participated in the opening of a school in May and contributed $10 million [US] dollars for President Michel Martelly's National Fund for Education (FNE) at a fundraiser in New York in October.
